Toys and Kids Take Charge

What better way to connect with Moms than to give their children an opportunity to play! Thanks to Energizer and several generous toy manufacturers, moms and kids were able to enjoy a day of arts, crafts and creative fun in Philadelphia over Spring Break. At the “Kids Take Charge” mixer, children of all ages (and even some kids at heart) had the equivalent of a giant toybox to choose from, while Energizer provided the batteries for the toys.

Thanks to Basic Fun for Bop-Its, Spinmaster for radio-control toys, VTech for the Giraffe Ride and Learn Bike, Smith and Tinker for Nanoscopes and the ever popular Elmo Tickle Hands. Many small bodies immediately surrounded the Super Duper Computers made popular by the SuperWHY! Show. And what kids’ party isn’t complete without bubbles! Little Kids Toys brand provided a variety of bubble toys, like Bib Bubble Friends, Snascar Bubble Racer and a really cool motorized bubble light. Cepia LLC, makers of the ever popular ZhuZhu Pets, provided several sets of the furry hamster friends with a variety of accessories – definitely a hit with this crowd. (The fun new designs for the 2010 line of ZhuZhu Pets are adorable…seriously, I’m thinking of asking my kids for Pinkie, Moo or Captain Zhu for Mother’s Day!)

The event surrounded the launch of the Energizer “Kids Take Charge” video contest. With a video camera in hand, families can record and post a video of their child explaining the mischief they can get into when the toys that keep them occupied run out of battery power. The top ten creative entries will receive a portion of a $10,000 donation – based on the number of votes their video receives – to the charity of their choice. The first 250 contest entries will win a free charger.

For the bigger kids, Moms had a chance to meet old friends and new ones. I was thrilled to spend time with my Philadelphia friends at the event.  Special thanks to Jo-Lynne Shane of Musings of a Housewife, who helped me with invitations and location. I was delighted to see my old pal, Sarah Peppel (GenMom
and developed a new friendship with Jana Mathews (The Meanest Mom).  It was a fun spring break getaway for my kids as well as they were able to go with me to Philly, and age didn’t matter. They loved all those toys, and I know we’ll be taking a trip to the local Target or Wal-Mart to stock up on these great toys for summer time.
